Kenneth Schurgott FTIA

Ken is a Tax and Commercial Law Partner in
the Sydney office of Schurgott Noolan Pty Ltd. Ken has extensive
experience in all aspects of tax (including state taxes) as well as
business structuring, asset protection, succession planning and
trust and estate law. Ken is the Vice President of The Tax Institute
and a member of the NSW Divisional Council and Education
Committee. He is also a member of the Advisory Panel to the Board
of Taxation and has recently been a member of the Working Group
on Managed Investment Trusts and is presently heavily engaged in
consultation in relation to the reform of the taxation of trusts.

Stephen Westaway FTIA

With over 30 years in the accounting profession Steve holds significant commercial and corporate experience. Steve has been actively involved in the Taxation Institute of Australia in various roles for 20 years.

Tracey Rens FTIA

Tracey is a Corporate & International Tax Partner at Deloitte. She has 17 years of cross-border M & A, international structuring and advisory experience. She leads the Deloitte IFRS and TMT Tax practices in Sydney and is a member of the Tax Consolidation Centre of Excellence. Tracey is also a member of the Advisory Panel to the Board of Taxation.

Arthur Athanasiou FTIA

Arthur is a partner at Thomsons Lawyers and an Accredited Specialist in tax law with the Law
Institute of Victoria. Arthur is a National and State Councillor with the Tax Institute of Australia and
chairs the Law Institute's Tax Law Advisory Committee. He has extensive experience in all areas
of direct and indirect taxation, domestic and internationally. Arthur's main area of practice is
dispute resolution, particularly in the SME sector, with both the ATO and the SRO. Arthur
regularly appears in mainstream media and is a widely published writer on taxation issues having
written many articles and books on taxation.

Graeme Cooper FTIA

Graeme is a Professor of Taxation Law
at the University of Sydney and a consultant to Greenwoods &
Freehills Sydney. He is currently a member of the National Council
and the National Education Committee of the Tax Institute and was
formerly Chair of the NSW Division. He has worked as a consultant
on tax projects for the OECD, IMF, World Bank, Treasury, ATO,
the Board of Taxation and the ANAO. He is a frequent speaker
at national and international tax conferences, the author of
several books on tax topics and many articles in Australian and
international journals.

Michael Flynn FTIA

Michael has been a member of the Victorian Bar since 1993, specialising in taxation. Michael is a member of The
Tax Institute’s National Council and Victorian State Council. Michael
is the Editor of the Laws of Australia: Revenue Law volume. Michael
is also the co-author of Death and Taxes, a book published by
Thomson Reuters on the tax consequences of death.

Wayne Healy FTIA

Wayne works for McGillivrays Fresh Expert Accounting. He is a Certified Practising Accountant and has been with McGillivrays Fresh Expert Accounting for over 22 years. Wayne advises business clients in commercial and taxation matters and has provided litigation support to a number of legal firms in Perth. Wayne’s clients require business structuring advice both in Australia and overseas. Trust structures, their establishment, use and unravelling, forms a major part of Wayne’s professional career. Wayne is a Fellow of CPA Australia and a Fellow of the Tax Institute. He is an active member of the Tax Institute and is the current Chairman of the Education Committee and a State Councillor. Wayne also sits on the National Education Committee and the Education Advisory Board for the Institute.

Matthew Pawson FTIA
Matthew has a combined degree in Law and Commerce from the
University of Tasmania and was admitted to legal practice in
August 2000. He has been the managing partner of Hobart firm,
Peter Worrall Lawyers, since July 2007 and commenced as a
director of Launceston firm, Rae & Partners, in April 2011.
Matthew practices principally in commercial and property law,
specialising in a wide range of complex legal transactions,
business structuring and property development. He also focuses
on providing tax advice in the area of indirect tax law including
GST and State taxes (duty and land tax) and CGT advice,
particularly in estate matters. Matthew’s clients are drawn from a
broad range of local, interstate and international investors,
developers and business people.
Matthew has been a member of the State Council of The Tax
Institute since February 2008 and is currently serving as the
Tasmanian appointed National Councillor to the Board of The Tax
Institute. He is also a member of the Property and Commercial
Committee of the Law Society of Tasmania. Matthew has
presented previously for The Tax Institute and is a part-time
lecturer at the Centre for Legal Studies in Hobart and guest
presenter for the Law Society of Tasmania on GST issues.
