Course structure

CTA1 Foundations is completed during one study period, which typically runs for 17-19 weeks and requires you to complete 110 hours of study. In addition, you will also be expected to devote appropriate time to exam preparation and workplace applications.

CTA1 Foundations is delivered through both face-to-face lectures and distance study (utilising web/teleconferencing tutorials). Alternatively, experienced candidates can apply to complete the course through assessment only or the intensive course in order to accelerate your qualification.

Course units from the CTA1 Foundations can be purchased individually in order to fill a specific knowledge gap.

Modes of delivery

Face-to-face study

Face-to-face study candidates can attend lectures, which are typically held fortnightly in most capital cities, and are 3 hours in length.

Distance study

Distance study candidates receive support from comprehensive electronic, online and printed resources, as well as web/teleconference tutorials for some courses.

Intensive study

The intensive study format is typically held over a 6 week period that concludes with an exam, and candidates receive support from comprehensive electronic, online and printed resources, as well as web/teleconference tutorials for some courses.

Assessment only

Candidates are allowed to accelerate their studies by progressing directly to the assessment for the course if they have the prior study, qualifications and experience.

Course workload

Face-to-face study

  • 3 hours for the pre-reading module
  • 3 hours Code of Professional Conduct online module
  • 3 hours x 7 face-to-face lectures
  • 8 x 45-minute online multiple choice assessment (Checkpoint tests)
  • 2.15-hours exam and recommended 6-10 hours exam preparation
  • Recommend 6 hours per module of private study
  • Total approximately 102 hours (within 16 weeks)

Distance study

  • 2 hours for the pre-reading module
  • 3 hours Code of Professional Conduct online module
  • 2 hours x 3 web/teleconference tutorials (optional)
  • 8 x 45-minute online multiple choice assessment
  • 2.15-hours exam and recommended 6-10 hours exam preparation
  • Recommend 6-8 hours per module of private study
  • Total approximately 102 hours (within 16 weeks)

Intensive study mode

  • 2 hours for the pre-reading module
  • 3 hours Code of Professional Conduct online module
  • 2 hours x 3 web/teleconference tutorials (optional)
  • 8 x 45-minute online multiple choice assessment
  • 2.15-hours exam and recommended 6-10 hours exam preparation

All candidates will also be expected to devote appropriate time to exam preparation and workplace applications.

Assessment

CTA1 Foundations is assessed through:

  • an exam, with a weighting of 50%
  • eight online tests, with a total weighting of 40%
  • attendance and participation, with a weighting of 10%.

All assessment tasks must be passed in order to complete the course.
