Information for Graduates of Foundation Tax and/or Applied Tax
The following information is prepared for graduates of our Foundation Tax and/or Applied Tax courses now seeking the full award of ‘Diploma of Australian Taxation Law’ offered by the Tax Institute.
On 29 June 2011 the Diploma of Australian Taxation Law award was approved by the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) as a course in Australian taxation law. The Institute’s Diploma of Australian Taxation Law award is achieved through successful completion of the Certificate in Foundation Tax and Certificate in Applied Tax courses from curriculum taught in both courses from January 2011 onwards.
For past graduates of Foundation and/or Applied Tax there are options available to achieve the new Diploma qualification. Refer to each of the scenarios below.
1. Graduate of both Foundation Tax and Applied Tax (2006-2010)
Candidates who have successfully completed both Foundation Tax and Applied Tax will be required to complete the Diploma of Australian Taxation Law Qualification Upgrade offered by the Institute. Candidates will have 6 years from their initial course to enrol in and complete the Diploma course.
The upgrade course will consist of learning and online assessment in the following topic areas: Code of Conduct, Partnerships and Trusts, Tax Administration, Anti-avoidance and Tax Research skills. The award of Diploma of Australian Taxation Law will be presented upon successful completion of the Diploma Qualification Upgrade.

2. Graduate of Applied Tax (2006-2010)
Candidates who have successfully completed Applied Tax will be required to complete the Foundation Tax assessment and the Diploma of Australian Taxation Law Qualification Upgrade in order to achieve the Diploma qualification.
Candidates may choose to undertake the entire Foundation Tax course or undertake the assessment only pathway to achieve the award. Click here for further information on Foundation Tax.
The award of Diploma of Australian Taxation Law will be presented upon graduation of Foundation Tax and the Diploma Qualification Upgrade.

3. Graduate of Foundation Tax (2006-2010)
Candidates who have successfully completed Foundation Tax will be required to complete the new Code of Conduct reading for Foundation Tax and complete the Certificate in Applied Tax.
The award of Diploma of Australian Taxation Law will be presented upon graduation of Applied Tax.
