Welcome to the 24th National Convention

A Message From The Institute
The Taxation Institute of Australia’s National Convention for 2009 – “Bright Lights Big City” – promises to deliver the most extensive professional development program ever delivered to Australian tax professionals. We are extremely pleased to present the program for this must-attend event for every tax practitioner, which has been developed based on the feedback we have received from tax professionals.
The 24th National Convention combines the very best from the Taxation Institute’s previous Conventions with exciting new specialist streams. We have also changed the timing of the Convention to make it much easier to attend and introduced a new flexible ticketing structure.
Our program begins on Wednesday afternoon with the recently retired High Court Chief Justice, Murray Gleeson, sharing with us his wisdom on the subject of statutory interpretation. Other keynote sessions that will be of interest to every taxation practitioner include:
- The Commissioner of Taxation, Michael D’Ascenzo, and Second Commissioner of Taxation, Bruce Quigley, speaking on the Commissioner’s General Powers of Administration, which promises to be both topical and controversial.
- The Secretary of Treasury, Dr Ken Henry, and a panel of experts discussing and debating the Federal Government’s tax review which is being conducted under the guidance of Dr Henry himself.
This new structure allows delegates to choose from a range of subjects based on the profile of their clients, their interests and their personal level of experience.
Our new flexible ticketing provides delegates the option to attend all sessions within one stream, or mix and match sessions from various streams depending on their preferences.
There is also the opportunity to share sessions with your colleagues through the introduction of our corporate registration system.
Of course, the technical program is complimented by a fantastic social program, with the Convention dinner at Luna Park sure to be a highlight.
We hope you find this program as exciting as we do and we look forward to seeing you
enjoy the “Bright Lights Big City” and best National Convention yet!
