The 2014 National Convention program includes a variety of social functions, allowing you to relax and socialise with peers. The Convention Welcome Drinks and Convention Gala Dinner are included in the full registration cost. Additional tickets may be purchased separately using the registration form.

Convention Welcome Drinks at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG)

The Convention Welcome Drinks will be held at the newly redeveloped Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery. Join us for a memorable experience in TMAG’s central gallery within the rich surrounds of the unique site and collections of the Henry Hunter galleries open for you to browse.

TMAG is within walking distance of the Hotel Grand Chancellor (approx. 2 minute walk). The Tax Institute staff will be situated along the route to direct you.
If you or your accompanying person suffer from mobility issues, please note this on your registration form so that alternative transportation arrangements can be made.
Delegates participating in optional evening activities should refer to their confirmation letter for scheduled transfer times.

Time: 5.45 – 7.00pm

Tax Adviser of the Year Awards Ceremony and Gala Dinner

Federation Ballroom, Hotel Grand Chancellor, Hobart

Join us in the Hotel Grand Chancellor’s Federation Ballroom for a dinner celebrating the best of Tasmanian food and wine, featuring seasonal local produce carefully selected by the hotel’s team of talented chefs.

Time: 7.00pm – 12.00pm

Option 1: Walking Ghost Tour of Hobart + Dinner at the Ball & Chain Grill

Walk amongst the dead from our legendary past! You will be professionally guided through our dramatic, deliciously haunted and most historic old CBD taking in tales of our legendary past through to current day. Hobart has more than its fair share of Ghosts - come see for yourself!

A two course dinner at the Ball & Chain Grill is included (excluding beverages).

Option 2: Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary Night Tour

This ultimate experience is for any wildlife lover who thrives on the up close and personal experience. During this two and a half hour tour, you will have up-close encounters with animals like bettongs, tawny frogmouths and golden possums just to name a few. You will also be able to hand feed the Tassie devils, literally having a ‘tug of war' with the devils dinner.

Tour departs from the welcome reception at 6:45pm.  Transfers will return guests to their hotels after the tour.

Option 3: Rockwall Bar & Grill Salamanca

Rockwall offers sophisticated or casual dining in a nature-inspired environment, encompassing the amazing textures and tastes that Tasmania has to offer.

Following the welcome drinks guests will be guided approximately 900m to the restaurant. If you or your accompanying person suffer from mobility issues, please note this on your registration form so that alternative transportation arrangements can be made.
Price includes a three-course meal and beverages.

Option 4: The Grange Challenge

Is Grange really that good?

Be you a wine expert or wine appreciator, join Phil Manser from Wine Direct as he puts Australia’s iconic red wine through its paces against some of the Australia’s premier boutique wineries.

Be greeted on arrival by Grand Cru Champagne, grown in an area made famous by the likes of Krug and Salon. Then it’s down to business as Phil presents these outstanding wines in a relaxed and informal setting… with a twist in the tale.

This social event is proudly hosted by Wine Direct and is provided at the heavily subsidized cost of $30 per person.

Those attending will also be in the running to win a twin pack of premium red wine

Grand Port Arthur
Rich in visual history, the Port Arthur Historic Site evokes a powerful sense of our past convict era and of early Australian settlement heritage. Sitting tranquilly amidst English oaks and gardens, Port Arthur is a harsh contrast to the beauty of the Tasman Peninsula.

MONA with Mt Wellington & Ferry Return

Locally known as 'the Mountain', the scenic drive to the summit of Mt Wellington unfolds into a magnificent splendour of panoramic vistas over the city, Derwent River and beyond. Located on the banks of the Derwent River, MONA continues to attract visitors from around the globe for its compelling display of art and architecture.
