The Price on Carbon - What you Need to Know

07 Dec 2011
The Tax Institute, Sydney
NSW

The contentious legislation that provides for a price on carbon has finally passed the senate and barring a political calamity for the current government will come into effect on 1 July 2012.

As a first step in developing your knowledge in this area, the objective of this session is to develop a framework for answering client questions on the carbon price and to enable tax practitioners to move all things carbon from "unknown unknowns" into "known unknowns" and "known knowns".

This event covered:

  • the mechanism for a price on carbon
  • the various reporting requirements, including the National Greenhouse Reporting Acts and the Global Reporting Initiative
  • trading in carbon credits
  • consulting opportunities and risk management issues.
