Abstract:
On 17 July 2007, the federal government announced the introduction of the Australian Emissions Trading System, which may impact as many as 900 large facilities as well as upstream fuel suppliers. While the trading system will commence no later than 2012,detailed design elements are to be completed by 2008 and enabling legislation is to be passed in 2009. Now is the time for industry to consult with Government to ensure appropriate tax outcomes on such issues as permit issuance and trading, abatement activites and incentives.
