Too often disputes with the Commissioner spiral out of control because of poor planning and no thought given to any preparatory steps a taxpayer could take to minimise costs and further exposure.
This paper provides strategies tax advisors can adopt when a taxpayer needs to prepare for a review or resolve a dispute with the Commissioner, so to ensure
that a taxpayer's tax exposure and costs are minimised.
Peter Poulos, CTA is a Corporate Advisory and Tax Partner at Gadens and has 28 years' experience in tax. He was previously a specialist M&A Tax Partner at a Big 4 accounting firm and served as chair of the firm's Global M&A Tax practice. Peter's experience encompasses roles in the tax structuring and/or tax due diligence for circa 500 transactions, covering all transaction sizes and industry sectors with a weighting towards private equity, natural resources, property and infrastructure. More recently as a Corporate lawyer he has extended his structuring role to negotiating acquisitions and divestments of SME's.
