The new tax agent regime paper

The Government is committed to introducing the new tax agents regime. This paper focuses on what you need to do to be ready for the new regime. Topics covered include:

  • registration obligations
  • conducting your practice to ensure that you are not in breach of the Code of Professional Conduct
  • regulation of BAS service providers
  • the safe harbour from penalties for taxpayers who have engaged a registered tax agent
  • the types of client tasks and information that can be outsourced to offshore entities.

Sue leads EY's Melbourne Tax Controversy practice. She has acted in various AAT, Federal Court, High Court and Supreme Court cases relating to various Commonwealth and state taxes, and has advised clients on a broad range of taxation issues including income tax, GST and PRRT. Sue is also an accredited mediator and has assisted clients in resolving disputes using various alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
