Miscommunication or lack of communication is usually the main reason for a breakdown in relationships,both personal and professional.This presentation concentrates on communication in a professional relationship – the one between a company and a client. People business with people they like, plain and simple.

Topics covered include:

  • face-to-face communication
  • anonymous communication, eg phone and email
  • plain speaking – conveying your message so that it is being understood
  • listening to what is really being said
  • building empathy through communication.

Author profile:

Margaret Sutherland
Margaret Sutherland runs her own company SpeakUp, launched in 2005, and provides coaching for speaking in public and other associated communication programs. She was previously Executive Officer of Clarence Football Club and prior to that worked for 32 years in the advertising and marketing industry. Margaret is a member of Hobart POWERtalkers. She is an ITC (International Training in Communication) Accredited Corporate Trainer, ITC Speech Contest Judge and was awarded a Fellow of ITC at the 2005 International Convention in Baltimore, USA. She was International President of ITC for two years until August 2011. Margaret was a facilitator/trainer for the Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce. She is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, is on the Board of Directors of the MS Society of Tasmania and Clarence Football Club, a member of Women Chiefs of Enterprises and was a category winner in the Tasmanian Telstra Business Women’s Awards and an Australian finalist in 2007. Margaret is a Friend of the Museum and also of the Theatre Royal and serves as a tour guide for the public at the Theatre Royal. She is also a Rotarian. Current at 18 October 2012
