Des is the Special Tax Adviser at the Australian Taxation Office. Previously, he was Deputy Chief Tax Counsel for the ATO, a role he held from 1994 until 2011. His work includes advising on major public and private rulings and strategic litigation. Des has been Chair of the Public Rulings Panel and the General Anti Avoidance Rules Panel and currently chairs the International Steering Committee as well as the NTLG International Sub-committee. Greg is the Chairman of the Adelaide and Darwin partnership of Minter Ellison. He practises in the areas of superannuation, taxation, trusts and commercial law, and advises generally on a wide range of commercial matters including company and business sales and acquisitions and appropriate business structures. Greg has acted for a wide variety of superannuation funds and also has extensive taxation and stamp duty expertise in all areas of commercial transactions.

Dr Alice McCleary CTA-Life
Alice McCleary, FTIA (Life), is a Director of several listed and
unlisted companies, Ms McCleary is a chartered accountant with
wide experience in leadership, corporate governance, professional
practice, and policy development. Ms McCleary has been a
corporate tax partner in Coopers & Lybrand, was intimately
involved with the Ralph Review of Business Taxation in the late
1990s, and in 2001 was President of The Tax Institute - the first
woman to hold that position in the Institute’s history. In recent years,
Ms McCleary has played a pivotal role in floating four companies
on the Australian Stock Exchange • three successful minerals
exploration companies, as well as the first Chinese manufacturer
to list in Australia. She also represents Australia on the International
Ethics Standards Board for Accountants, which sets the ethical
standards for the world’s two and a half million accountants. In
2003 she was awarded a Centenary Medal for services to higher

Terrence Murphy QC, CTA
Terry, QC, CTA, is a Barrister at Chancery Chambers. He practises at the Victorian Bar in revenue law, trust and superannuation law, corporations law and commercial law, and has appeared for both taxpayers and the Commissioner in the High, Federal and Supreme Courts. Terry is a member of the Taxation Committee of the Business Section of the Law Council of Australia, a member of the Melbourne Law Masters Tax Advisory Board at the University of Melbourne (where he lectures in the LLM program), the Bar's representative on the School of Law Program Advisory Committee of Victoria University and a frequent presenter at state and national conferences of The Tax Institute and other professional bodies. Terry was appointed Special Counsel to the ATO from 2008 until 2010. Current at 07 March 2016
