On 17 September 2009, the ATO celebrated the 25th anniversary of the National Tax Liaison Group (NTLG) working together to improve tax design and administration in Australia.
Chaired and sponsored by the Commissioner, the NTLG identifies and explores opportunities to improve tax administration and enhance the community’s confidence in the administration and operation of the tax system. The Commissioner Michael D’Ascenzo said that tax practitioners are critical to the administration of our tax system given their influence on taxpayers.
"This consultative and collaborative approach with the NTLG allows us to work together to deliver a fair, efficient and effective administration of the tax system in the interests of the wider Australian community," Mr D’Ascenzo said.
Joan Roberts FTIA, President of the Taxation Institute of Australia, believes the forum is beneficial for participants.
"The NTLG plays an important role in improving the administration of tax laws. It gives the Tax Commissioners and representatives of the key associations for tax professionals a unique opportunity to come together to consider and debate difficult tax issues in a mature forum. The outcomes benefit taxpayers," Ms Roberts said.
