In a broadcast message to agents sent on 11 February 2010, the ATO advised that now that it has started using its new income tax processing system, agents will no longer be able to lodge their personal income tax return using special tax agent numbers 1118 or 1333.
Agents will need to decide whether they want to lodge using their own tax agent number or no tax agent number at all. If they choose to lodge without a tax agent number they will be treated as a self preparer. An advantage of using their own tax agent number is that agents can view their information in the Tax Agent Portal. This will also ensure they continue to receive a lodgment concession. To help maintain privacy, agents can restrict who in their practice can access their details in the portal.
