15 Aug 08 Farewell to David Vos, inaugural IGOTMEMBER 4 writes:
"It is with great sadness that we are to farewell David Vos as Inspector General of Taxation. It is not surprising that the current government has taken this step as they did have as policy the abandonment of the IGOT role in any event. David has been a fearless advocate for commonsense in taxation administration with 62 of his 65 recommendations adopted by ATO.
We can only hope that the new appointee, whoever that may be, can continue the excellent work of the first 5 years of the IGOT and that such a role is not downgraded, emasculated or otherwise sent into oblivion.
It is apparent from the volume and tenor of Member Feedback in last week’s TAXVINE that the IGOT's role is far from over. As we look into the future to see Dr Henry's review of taxation, it will become apparent to all that the IGOT will be needed given that the politicians have used those two mutually exclusive words "Tax" and "Simplification" in the one sentence.
Thank you David for your efforts over the past 5 years. We practitioners have appreciated your fine efforts."
