The ATO has advised that general interest charge (GIC) and failure to lodge (FTL) penalty remission requests of up to $10,000 can now be granted over the phone, with requests for remissions considered on a case by case basis. Agents no longer need to write in to request FTL remissions as long as the amount is $10,000 or less.

To ensure a fast, easier service send GIC and FTL remission requests, agents can use:

  • the Tax Agent Portal, by selecting 'Mail' and the topic 'Refunds and remissions', or
  • if unable to use the portal or difficulties are experienced, phone 13 72 86 Fast Key Code 1 2 2 between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday.
