But, one still wonders about their systems. The early morning wake-up call is to do with a client who, unfortunately for me, no longer shows up on my data base. Whether I might have something tucked away in the paper archives I don't know, and nor do I care very much. At my prompting, the pleasant ATO employee checks to see which TAN is associated with the most recent tax return lodgment - it's not mine! But, I have to lodge a Client Update to take my name off his record? How do I do this? What is his tax file number? They can't tell me that, quite rightly. Why doesn't the system over-write the Tax Agent details if the TAN doesn't match? Remind me again how many millions of dollars the ATO has spent on its computer systems.
