In a broadcast message sent to tax agents on 28 July 2008, the ATO advised that they may soon receive a letter which includes a list of their clients who have outstanding income tax returns and/or activity statements.
The list will include the names of clients who have:
- lodged or advised that they did not need to lodge their 2006 income tax returns and have not lodged their 2007 income tax returns – these clients will appear at the top of the list, or
- not lodged nor advised that they did not need to lodge their 2006 income tax returns and who may have other outstanding documents.
The ATO asks that if any of the clients listed have stopped using an agent's services, they should send the ATO the client's last known business or residential address through the Tax Agent Portal to ensure that they don’t receive unnecessary correspondence.
