"I recently received an ATO letter for a client in relation to partnership/trust income. I checked out the schedule that they referred to and the same trust was listed twice for the same year. All the details regarding TFN, name etc were identical.

I rang the ATO and spent about 20 minutes on the telephone to be told that they would have to send an email off to someone in another department that dealt with that and they would contact me.

Two days later I received a phone call that advised me that somehow there was a double up with the processing of the Trust tax return that was not picked up by the system and they could see where my client had correctly declared the income so everything was finalised and there would be no further action required.

No apologies of course.

If I can look at the schedule and see that the same item appears to be listed twice why can't they.? Do they not check what they are sending out?"
