"I received a cheque from the ATO for a client company that "represents a payment for interest on Overpayment of Tax." The amount of the cheque is $0.82.
It would be interesting to know how much this ridiculous exercise has cost the Australian Taxpayer. I wonder how many such payments are made and how many cheques for such small amounts go unresented? Can't the ATO look at some sort of internal control to prevent this waste of time and resources?
By the way, the overpaid tax was in the 2001 year, not bad – it’s only taken them 6 years to get around to sending the cheque!"
