07 Aug 2009 On dealing with the ATO and other matters

"So pleased that you are keeping up the standard of your weekly updates.

My office strongly support the comments from Member 1 from a couple of weeks ago (see 2009 TAXVINE NO 28 (17 July 2009)) and note the support from other Members. We have decided to do the same thing in dealing with the ATO. Unless they can identify themselves fully, our receptionist has been instructed to tell the ATO minions to put their requests in writing.

Only when it costs the ATO money will they change their ways.

Although not a tax issue per se, we also wish to voice our objections to the continual changes that keep occurring in Accounting Standards, ASIC requirements, Centrelink etc. Very few are meaningful or add clarity to our work for small to medium clients. Once again, there are a large number of suggested (or mandatory) changes to company Notes to accounts. We can see no clear reason for the change, except change for change sake. Is someone making the changes to show that they are doing something? or to keep their job?. A bit like the ongoing changes to the Auditors Report for Self Managed Super Funds. Have they yet decided on a wording that will be acceptable for say the next 3 years?"
