"I note that the Tax Agents Board has been considering the situation where accountants outsource their work. May I suggest that the same approach to be taken when the ATO outsources their work? I have had numerous strange calls from various debt collection companies in relation to clients with debts owed to the ATO. These people seem to have a lot of information provided to them by the ATO and some dubious practices. This week I had a call from one of these, and I told them I had written a letter to the ATO re the debt but had not received a reply. I was told to send an email with a copy of the letter to the debt collector, not the ATO. Should I do this?
I think if the Tax Agents Board is serious about those of us who outsource (and I don’t), then they should also consider what the ATO is doing."
