"A few months ago I put an FOI request in. The response back was that they were not able to do the request within the statutory time frame because an FOI officer was going on leave. No other reason, just one person having some holiday. The letter asked for my consent for the extension past the statutory time limit.
I declined to consent, and pointed out that going on leave would never be good enough for a Tax Agent’s extension, thus, on basis of equality, why would it be good enough for the Commissioner?
Of course the FOI was done in their own time outside the statutory requirements without recourse. This story does not help anyone, but demonstrates the hypocrisy of the ATO’s actions."
