"This is one of those irksome issues concerning IAS addresses on the ATO database. Recently I have had new clients where there has been no PAYG(I) liability for the previous year, once we prepared the return for 2007 they "fell back" into the PAYG(I) system.
When this occurred the ATO sent the information to the PREVIOUS Tax Agent. Surely, the current tax agent would be the logical address for these notices as the taxpayer has signed the ELS declaration etc?
Similarly, a long standing client was in the PAYG(I)/IAS system in 2001, then "fell out" until in 2006 came back into system and the ATO sent the notices to the previous residential address on the 2001 tax return.
Surely the notices would be sent to the current tax agent address or the current residential address as per the latest tax return lodged rather than being sent to an old out of date address and the notices being lost?
We and our clients lose time fixing these matters with the ATO."
