"Here's another small example of ATO chronic inefficiency. A new client asks us to apply for TFNs for his new group of companies. Should be no problem, just download the form from the ATO website. That’s NAT 3799, proudly marked "Sample Only". D'oh.
Turns out it’s another of those horrible forms that must be issued by the "forms-controller" at the ATO. NAT 3799 has some barcode and serial number on it. Long gone are the good old days of getting a bundle of forms from the nearby newsagent or local friendly branch of the ATO.
So, instead we go to the ATO website and click at "Order forms". But NAT 3799 is limited to 5 forms only! So what now? Login again tomorrow, and order another 5 forms. Same again each day for a week. 5 forms at a time, simply to acquire a small supply of forms to have handy for next time a client has a similar request. Seems such a chronic waste of limited national resources, ie our time. Unfortunately this small example is symptomatic of far greater efficiency (sic) problems within the ATO."
