Removal of PBR Register
Taxation Institute President, Joan Roberts FTIA (Harwood Andrews, Melbourne), Taxation Institute Vice President, David Williams FTIA, and Michael Dirkis FTIA are meeting with the Second Commissioner, Bruce Quigley, the Assistant Commissioner, Law & Practice, and other senior ATO personnel today, Friday 20 February 2009, to discuss the ATO’s decision to suspend the PBR register and its proposals to provide alternative mechanisms to convey the ATO’s views. The ATO’s move is based upon operational cost concerns and concerns that the Register was being used as a research tool. The Taxation Institute strongly opposes the removal/downgrading of the Register as the Register provides the transparency needed to ensure that there is consistency in the application of taxation laws by the ATO.
