The ATO has advised that in 2007, it engaged an external consultant PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) to independently review its release from debt decisions for individuals. The review is aimed at ensuring ATO processes are fair and consistent and at providing the community with a greater level of certainty regarding the ATO's approach.
PwC was asked to conduct 4 reviews over 2 years. Each review will investigate approximately 50 release cases selected at random by the ATO from a national case list. The report of the first review (June 2007) is now available.
