09 Feb 09 Tax help available for people affected by Queensland storms

In a media release issued on 6 February 2009, the Commissioner, Michael D’Ascenzo, said the ATO is aware that this is a difficult time for many residents in the storm affected areas of Queensland.

“We understand that many people have other priorities to focus on at the moment and would like to alleviate some of the strain on those affected,” Mr D’Ascenzo said. “If you are having problems meeting your tax obligations because of the storms, or have recently received a letter or notice from the Tax Office, you should call us on 13 11 42 to make arrangements specific to your individual circumstances. Tax agents can also make arrangements on behalf of affected clients by calling us on 13 72 86.”
