Taxation Institute welcomes launch of Tax Issues Entry System
After welcoming the Government's decision to accept the 26 recommendations contained in the Tax Design Review Panel’s report Better Tax Design and Implementation earlier this year - see 2008 TAXVINE No 34
(29 August 2008) - the Taxation Institute also welcomes the launch by the Assistant Treasurer on 20 November 2008 of the Tax Issues Entry System (TIES). TIES delivers on one of the recommendations agreed to by the Government from the Tax Design Review Panel's report and provides an opportunity for taxpayers to raise issues relating to the care and maintenance of the Australian Government’s tax and superannuation systems to be jointly managed by the ATO and Treasury. TIES is an important step forward in the Taxation Institute's decades-long push for full and open consultation and established implementation guidelines in the design of tax law. The Taxation Institute will continue to seek to engage the Government as other Tax Design Review Panel recommendations are implemented to ensure that their full potential is realised.
