12 Sep 08 Wanted Member Feedback on Australia’s Future Tax System ReviewAustralia’s Future Tax System Review is a high level review encompassing Australian Government and State taxes, except the GST, and interactions with the transfer system. For a copy of the Review’s terms of reference go here.
The Taxation Institute is preparing a submission in response to the Review Panel’s invitation for initial submissions from the public. The focus of initial submissions is at the broad tax policy level. For example submissions should provide views on whether non-cash benefits should be taxed and upon whom that burden should fall rather than in the detail of how this taxing of benefits is designed.
The four key questions the Review Panel wants addressed are:
- What major challenges facing Australia need to be addressed through the tax-transfer system?
- What features should the system have in order to respond to these challenges?
- What are the problems with the current system?
- What reforms do we need to address these problems?
The Taxation Institute is seeking member input on these questions. To assist in this process, we have prepared a brief questionnaire which also provides further background information. Responses to the questionnaire and any other comments should be made by 10 October 2008. They can be sent to mailto:firstname.lastname@example.org
For a copy of the questionnaire, including details for where to send it, go here.
The Review Panel intends to use the initial submissions and associated discussions to inform a consultation paper that will be prepared and released by the Panel before the end of 2008.
