Is the Tax Office widening its crackdown on lawyers and accountants?

This event was a repeat of the 10 February 2009 event at the Swissotel, Sydney.

Recent press reports have concentrated on the ATO’s attitude to three key areas of tax planning undertaken by professionals - the use of:

  • service trusts
  • partnerships of discretionary trusts
  • incorporated legal practices.
The Deputy Commissioner of Taxation (Small and Medium Enterprises) outlined the Tax Office’s views on these subjects.
