Our dedicated Tax Policy and Advocacy team supports our goal to be the most respected and influential tax professional representative body. Our key areas of advocacy are informed by the views of our expert members. In 2016 this will include calling for structural tax reform of the Australian tax system and championing the future of the tax profession.
Our team engages with government organisations to advocate for reforms to our tax system. They prepare numerous submissions and regularly participate in consultations with organisations including Treasury, the Australian Taxation Office, the Board of Taxation, the Inspector-General of Taxation, the Tax Practitioners Board, House of Representatives Tax and Revenue Committee and the various state and territory revenue offices.
The team updates members on developments in tax policy by presenting at the Institute’s flagship events around Australia such as the National Convention and Financial Services Conference, contributing to publications such as TaxVine and Taxation in Australia and engaging in private briefings with members as needed. The team is regularly invited to provide media commentary on key tax issues.
The work of the Tax Policy & Advocacy team is greatly supported by our technical committees which are comprised of Tax Institute expert members who provide invaluable input in the form of technical assistance, practical guidance and industry experience. Contributions via these specialist technical committees ensure that member concerns with tax law and administration resulting from day-to-day practice are represented at the highest levels.
