"It appears that The Tax Institute raises many of the issues identified by tax agents in TAXVINE at the various ATO meetings. It then seems to simply accept the ATO statements that the latter will look into the problem. I believe, if both parties are serious about getting problems resolved, a list of outstanding issues should be maintained showing when each matter was raised, the priority given to the issue (e.g. A, B, C etc) and an estimated date for completion. This list should be updated regularly to show progress, downgrade or upgrade of priorities, original completion dates and revised completion dates. This information should be made available to members so that the real progress on issues raised can be seen. Without any KPIs or measurements, we will continue to flounder in getting issues resolved by the ATO."

THE TAX INSTITUTE'S TAX COUNSEL, STEPHANIE CAREDES, COMMENTS: "The Tax Institute consistently raises issues that are raised in the Member Feedback section of TaxVine at the relevant ATO forum with a view to obtaining resolution on the issues. In addition, The Tax Institute is in regular contact with the ATO on these issues (eg with specific officers in the relevant areas and with the Professional Association Liaison Unit) to persist in resolving these issues outside of these forums."
