The Tax Agent Portal has been unable to accept auditor contravention reports (ACRs) for self-managed superannuation fund (SMSF) auditors since January 2013.
The ATO advises that in monitoring lodgments over the past few months, it has seen a significant reduction in the number of ACRs lodged compared with previous years. It says ACRs are a very important element in monitoring the integrity of the SMSF segment of the super system, and it is therefore concerned that some SMSF auditors may be stockpiling reports or having trouble transitioning to another lodgment method.
The ATO says that SMSF auditors should not stockpile their ACRs but should instead transition to an alternative method and lodge all outstanding ACRs immediately.
