MEMBER 358 writes, with the optimism of youth:

"I am a relatively young sole practitioner. It is quite amusing to read each week all the complaints re ATO incompetence.

I can understand some practitioners being in the business over 25 years now totally frustrated with the whole taxation administration system. And it always amused me more how these complainants end their feedback with "And thank god I am shortly to retire" or words to that effect.

But how are we going to attract new tax practitioners with such negative feedback each week. As we all know the population is only getting older and more and more tax practitioners will be retired as agents. Who is going to replace them, with such negative vibes from the professionals in the industry?

My recommendation to practitioners and the Tax Institute is to become more positive about the profession. Yes, it's a profession. We get paid reasonable money. Yes, we put up with numerous administration bungles by the ATO but it's the system.

Put up or shut up."
