20 Sep 13 ANAO Audit – ATO’s management of compliance of High Wealth Individuals

The Australian National Audit Office is currently conducting a review of the ATO’s management of the income tax compliance of High Wealth Individuals (HWI). The focus of the review is on the ATO’s compliance strategy which involves working with tax practitioners who advise HWI in respect of their income tax obligations.

Members who have HWIs as clients and are familiar with the ATO’s compliance strategies are invited to provide comments in relation to the following:

  • Members’ understanding of the ATO’s compliance strategy for HWIs and views of this strategy; and
  • How this strategy impacts on clients.

ANAO Audit – ATO’s Compliance Effectiveness Methodology

The Australian National Audit Office is also currently examining the application of the ATO’s Compliance Effectiveness Methodology to assess the effectiveness of key compliance activities of the ATO and the development  of strategies to promote voluntary compliance. Members are invited to provide their understanding of and views on the ATO’s Compliance Effectiveness Methodology. As there may be little knowledge of this methodology outside the ATO, Members are invited to provide comments on the usefulness of measures reported by the ATO about the effectiveness of its compliance activities, and what additional measures could be reported.
