05 Nov 07 ANAO report - Administration of high risk income tax refunds

The Australian National Audit Office (ANAO) has presented its report entitled "Administration of High Risk Income Tax Refunds in the Individuals and Micro Enterprises Market Segments".

The ANAO has made 5 recommendations. The first 4 recommendations focus on strengthening the ATO’s management arrangements and risk identification process supporting the administration of high risk income tax refunds. The final recommendation in the audit relates to improving the ATO’s information technology controls supporting the ongoing operation of the ATO’s income tax refund RAP Tools which are key systems used to identify and assess high risk income tax refunds. The ATO has agreed to the 5 recommendations made in the report.
