10 Sep 12 ATO acts responsively to external scrutiny
In media release No 2012/41, issued 7 September 2012, the ATO says that from that day, it will publish all findings made by its external scrutineers and the outcomes and improvements from implementing suggested recommendations
To start this process the ATO has selected three recent audits and reviews which were carried out by the Australian National Audit Office and the Inspector General of Taxation, and placed them on a central site.
The three audits or reviews are as follows:
- ANAO audit: The management of compliance in the small to medium enterprises market (8 December 2011)
- Inspector-General of Taxation review: Review into the Australian Taxation Office's change program (5 May 2011)
- Inspector-General of Taxation review: Report into the Australian Taxation Office's large business risk review and audit policies, procedures and practices (7 September 2011).
"This is just the first step in our commitment to publish all recommendations from the audits and reviews of the ATO...Ultimately all audits and reviews done by scrutineers in relation to the ATO since 2010 will be published and from now on this site will be updated quarterly throughout the year," the Commissioner, Michael D'Ascenzo said.
