At the briefing the ATO noted that as at 25 August 2010 approximately 4.46 million 2010 income tax returns have been received i.e. an average of 120,000 income tax returns a day. The number of returns received daily is expected to increase substantially during October 2010 due to the looming lodgement due date of 31 October.
The ATO reiterated its message that there have been some issues around timely processing of returns. This accords with the experience of some members. The ATO has sought to resolve these issues through consultation. Members that have been affected by long processing times and are able to provide us with specific details are encouraged to contact us directly at Tax Policy: email@example.com, as we would be happy to follow up the issue with the ATO directly on your behalf.
The ATO also noted that there has been no change to the issues surrounding:
- HELP/SFSS amendments;
- payment slips for companies and superannuation funds;
- companies newly registered and lodgment due dates;
- portal issues, and
- some client update lists.
