On 17 and 18 June 2014, Tax Counsel Thilini Wickramasuriya ATI and Stephanie Caredes CTA attended the ATO National Tax Practitioner Conference 2014 – Drivers for Change event held in Sydney. The ATO consulted with The Tax Institute and other representatives of the tax profession in developing this event which focused on exploring what the future relationship looks like between the tax profession, taxpayers and the ATO in the rapidly changing environment involving technology, globalisation and changing social values. Information about the event can be found here.
The Tax Institute was a member of the Association Industry Panel session which focused on considering four different future scenarios and what each scenario would mean for the tax profession, the role of associations and other stakeholders in the tax profession.
Following the event, the ATO plan to consult with the professional associations on the issues emanating from the event and The Tax Institute will be involved in these consultations. Material from the event should available on the ATO website shortly which members are encouraged to review.
