A message from Deputy Commissioner Hoa Wood – Help and support for tax time
ATO Deputy Commissioner Hoa Wood has released a message of support for tax professionals this tax time. Ms Wood acknowledged the toll that the past 18 months have taken on practitioners and that help is available at any time.
If you need more time to meet specific due dates, there are a range of deferral options available for tax professionals.
If you need more help to keep on top of lodgments across your practice, the supported lodgment program could be suitable for you.
If you have complex issues you need resolved, are struggling due to your own wellbeing, or have been impacted by natural disasters, there are other options available to provide support for your practice.
The ATO is also finalising their Tax Time Toolkits for 2021 to help guide your conversations with your clients.

When the Commissioner's remedial power has been used
The Commissioner of Taxation has limited powers to modify the operation of tax law in circumstances where entities will benefit, or at least be no worse off, as a result of the modification. This power is known as the Commissioner's remedial power (CRP).
To assist practitioners, this page contains an index of each time the Commissioner has modified the operation of the law using the CRP and links to legislative instruments and explanatory materials.
Legislation published to the ATO’s legal database will also indicate where the CRP has been used to modify the operation of provisions.
