“It is interesting to note that the ATO Portal was playing up badly on Tuesday and no advice was available from the ATO, apparently they made an update on Monday evening and this created the problems, another day that we could not gain access and work efficiently.
The same problem occurred on last weekend, we received a message that the portal was to be off for maintenance on Saturday evening form 6.00pm until Sunday at 9.00am, unfortunately the portal did not come back on line until about 12.50pm on Sunday.
We also have received a message from the ATO advising about a new tax year and telling us that tax time was here for 2014. Well that is great work we have problems that are never allowed for due to the constant slowness of the ATO Systems.
We are ready but is the ATO? (re Tax Agent Portal).
Don’t worry about 85% applying to us poor tax agents – let’s see if the ATO can have the Portal up for 85% of the time! Perhaps it would interesting for the ATO to actually produce some meaningful statistics as to how much time the Tax Portal actually does work correctly.
Absolutely unconscionable – the ATO hold a gun to our heads over 85% on-time lodgement but they hold our hand behind our backs with their deficient, unreliable systems.”
TAX COUNSEL THILINI WICKRAMASURIYA COMMENTS: “In the ATPAG Tax Time meeting on Tuesday 1 July 2014, the ATO noted that the Tax Agent Portal has experienced significant slowness and unscheduled unavailability this week and last week. The ATO stated that it is working on these issues. The ATO acknowledged that an SMS alert was not sent immediately about the unavailability of the Portal but that an alert was sent once it became clear that the impact of the issue was larger than first anticipated.”
