On 26 May 2014 the Inspector-General of Taxation (IGT) announced terms of reference and submission guidelines for a review into ATO services and support for tax practitioners: IGT media release 26 May 2014.
The IGT invites submissions on this topic. The closing date for submissions is 18 July 2014.
The IGT notes that, in 2012–13, over 70% of individual taxpayers and 90% of business taxpayers used registered tax practitioners to assist them with their tax affairs. Challenges in maintaining ATO services for tax practitioners have strained the relationship between the ATO and practitioners, with the level of tax practitioner satisfaction falling from 72% in 2007 to 62% in 2012 (with a low of 51% in 2011).
This review will investigate ATO services, such as the Tax Agent Portal, relationship managers, lodgment program and tax practitioner’s risk differentiation framework, to identify improvements for the ATO, tax practitioners and taxpayers.
The inquiry’s terms of reference and guidelines for making submissions are available from the IGT website.
