On Tuesday 28 October 2014, Tax Counsel Thilini Wickramasuriya FTI attended the final meeting focused on Tax Time 2014 with the ATO Tax Practitioner Advisory Group. Overall the feedback on Tax Time 2014 was positive. The only significant issues discussed at the meeting are below:
• The ATO are taking on board feedback from members of the ATPAG in relation to the stopping paper activity statements. They are considering other ways to ease the transition from paper to electronic and ironing out the issue whereby paper activity statements are automatically ceasing once an electronic amendment request is submitted. The ATO noted that paper activity statements can be switched back on in such instances through the Portal or by calling the ATO and they will publish some further guidance on how to do so in their next bulletin for tax professionals.
• Delays in the processing of requests submitted through the Portal have been largely related to the Debt area within the ATO. Resources have been reallocated within this area to deal with the backlog.
The key messages from the meeting as circulated by the ATO should be available via the link below shortly.
