On Tuesday 24 June 2014, Tax Counsel Thilini Wickramasuriya ATI attended a meeting of the ATO Tax Practitioner Advisory Group. This was the first of a series of regular meetings to discuss issues arising during Tax Time 2014. The first meeting focussed on key changes from Tax Time 2013 including:
- Tax practitioners will need to notify ATO of name changes for individual clients before lodging their income tax returns through the ATO Tax Agent telephony service by using Fast Key Code 1252. Clients can notify the ATO of name changes themselves as well.
- Client declarations can be made electronically via email or fax if certain criteria are met.
- ATO booklet outlining key changes for 2014 Tax Time and system availability and processing timelines was circulated to ATPAG members and will be made available on the ATO website.
