As mentioned last week, Tax Counsel Angie Ananda FTIA and I attended a special teleconference of the ATO Tax Practitioner Forum on Friday, 19 March 2010, to discuss refund delays. The meeting coincided with the Institute being quoted in the Australian Financial Review that day, expressing members' frustrations with the change program and calling on the ATO to fix the unintended pain it is causing. On the teleconference, I had the opportunity to reiterate these strong views on behalf of members. The ATO apologised for the delay and claimed they had fixed the problem and had resumed processing. The majority of delayed refunds will be delivered by the end of this week. The date of issue on these cheques is likely to be from the week ending 12 March 2010. I advised that members will be closely watching this deadline and hoping that the ATO will meet it on this occasion. Please keep me informed of the ATO’s progress at:
