The Chair of the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB), Dale Boucher, has announced, in a message dated 22 October 2010, that latest figures indicate that the TPB is heading towards 60,000 registered tax and BAS agents. This is likely to be reached once the TPB processes several thousand applications on hand.
Mr Boucher states: "This figure is important. Not only does it show a significant increase in our agent population, it also underpins the Board’s vision of bringing together all tax practitioners under a single regulatory framework for the benefit of the Australian community."
Mr Boucher concludes by noting that the TPB is aiming to finalise the bulk of the remaining 9,500 registration applications by the year’s end, which should bring the agent community to around 60,000 registered agents. Of this number, the TPB has received approximately 17,000 BAS agent applications.
