21 Nov 2019 Building developer digs hole for himself over GST fraud
A building developer from North-East Melbourne was sentenced in the County Court of Victoria to three years in jail for tax fraud.
Since 2012, the ATO has been investigating Mr Simon Petzierides and uncovered that he was involved in claiming more than half a million dollars in fraudulent GST refund claims he made in Business Activity Statements (BAS) lodged for two separate companies.
As the director of Brooklyn Projects 392 Pty Ltd, Mr Petzierides lodged seven BAS statements between 2010 and 2012 where he dishonestly obtained a financial advantage of close to $420,000.
