On Monday 17 November, Tax Counsel Stephanie Caredes was a panellist on the ATO’s inaugural live webcast panel on “Changes in the tax profession”. Other panellists included Assistant Commissioner Colin Walker from the ATO, tax agent Paul Meissner and BAS agent Chris McComb. The panellists discussed the environmental changes that are occurring, including the fast pace of technological change and innovation and globalisation, that are impacting on tax professionals and the tax profession. In particular, the move from relying on the Electronic Lodgement Service software to relying on “Standard Business Reporting” enabled software and the potential impact on the tax profession was discussed.
Over 1,200 participants attended the webcast and were able to ask questions and comment in real time while the discussion took place. Details of the panel can be found on the Tax Professionals live webcast page of the ATO website. Members who are interested in viewing a recording of the webcast will find links to view it here.
