The ATO says that a number of changes have been made which will affect tax agents and their FBT clients this year.
The due date for lodgment of clients’ FBT returns is 25 June 2014 if agents are lodging electronically. If clients’ FBT returns are not lodged electronically, the due date will revert to the statutory due date of 21 May 2014.
Appointment of tax agent date
The tax agent appointment date for FBT clients is 21 May 2014. This was previously 4 June 2014. Agents should make sure that their clients are attached to their registered agent number at the FBT role level by 21 May 2014. This will ensure they receive the lodgment and payment concessions for their FBT returns under the lodgment program.
Self-assessed deferral requests no longer available
Self-assessed deferral requests for FBT returns are no longer available. However agents can lodge a Request for additional time to lodge where there are exceptional or unforeseen circumstances that prevent lodgment by the due date. Be sure to include sufficient information for the request to be considered.
