29 Mar 11 Effective life review of radio broadcasting assets
The ATO advises that it has started a review of the radio broadcasting industry, as defined by ANZSIC code 56100, with a view to making new effective life determinations.
The review will cover all assets used to produce and transmit audio signals, including the assets used in radio broadcasting studios and related facilities. The primary activities the ATO is reviewing are:
- radio broadcasting
- radio station operation
- radio (including satellite radio) network operation.
The review will not cover the assets used:
- in broadcasting exclusively on the internet
- to produce pre-recorded radio programming.
The ATO expects its review of these assets to be completed within 12 months, with new effective life determinations applying from 1 July 2012. Draft effective lives will be issued for public comment well before final decisions are made.
